Ozymandias, also known as Adrian Veidt, is a fictional character from DC Comics, most notably featured in the limited series Watchmen. Born into extreme wealth, Veidt deliberately relinquished his family fortune, choosing to travel the world and study ancient civilizations. This led him to physical and intellectual self-perfection.
Returning to America, Veidt used his enhanced intellect and physical prowess to become a costumed vigilante, adopting the name Ozymandias, inspired by the famous Percy Bysshe Shelley poem. He quickly retired from vigilantism, revealing his identity publicly and using his intellect and cunning to build a vast business empire.
Veidt's ultimate goal was to unite humanity and prevent nuclear war. He orchestrated a complex plan, involving the creation of a genetically engineered alien monster which he teleported to New York City, killing millions. He framed Doctor Manhattan, manipulating events to unite the world against a common, external threat.
Despite the morally reprehensible nature of his actions, Veidt genuinely believed he was saving the world. He is considered one of the most intelligent and morally complex villains in comic book history.
